Information we collect
- Account information such as name, email, normalized phone number, password hashes, authentication records, and essential session data.
- Identity-verification status, verified name, verification-session identifier, and verification dates associated with the SafeSale account.
- Seller profile and listing information, including location details, item photos, description, condition, category, price, and device identifiers supplied by the seller.
- Offers, handoff notes, transaction status, fees, payment-provider identifiers, deadlines, confirmation timestamps, and receipts.
- Support communications and reasonable security, error, and service logs.
Stripe handles identity documents, selfies, card details, and payment processing in the current verification and checkout flows. SafeSale receives the results and identifiers needed to operate the transaction; it does not receive full card numbers. Password hashes are security data and are not user-readable account export content.
How we use information
We use information to create and secure accounts, connect buyer and seller activity to one account, verify eligibility, publish and moderate listings, route offers and emails, enforce deadlines, coordinate Stripe payments, unlock transaction contacts, record handoffs, issue receipts, prevent fraud, provide support, and comply with law.
SafeSale does not use the sender email configuration or an unrelated administrator address as the customer recipient. Transaction notices are routed to the account participants attached to that transaction.
Retention and transaction records
We retain information for as long as reasonably needed to provide accounts and transactions, preserve completed receipts, prevent fraud, resolve disputes, meet accounting or legal requirements, and protect the service. Completed transaction records may remain available to the buyer and seller as transaction history.
Retention needs differ by record. A deletion request may not remove information that SafeSale must retain for an active transaction, security, legal, accounting, dispute, or fraud-prevention purpose.
Security
SafeSale uses account authentication, participant checks on protected URLs, limited contact release, access controls, and payment providers to reduce risk. No system can guarantee absolute security. If you believe your account or personal information is at risk, contact support immediately.
Quebec’s privacy regulator explains that organizations must use safeguards appropriate to the sensitivity and context of the information. Read the Commission d’accès à l’information guidance.
