Protection is a process, not insurance or a guarantee. SafeSale records verified-account and transaction steps, but does not own, inspect, certify, insure, or warrant users’ used items.

Pickup & delivery

SafeSale does not provide pickup or delivery services. The buyer and seller—including stores—must agree directly on pickup or delivery, timing, location, and any delivery costs before completing the handoff.

Any delivery costs are separate from SafeSale fees. If a store offers delivery, it is the store’s own service, not a SafeSale service.

Only confirm the handoff after the buyer has received the item.

Businesses and stores

Approved stores sell with $0 SafeSale seller fees. Only the buyer pays SafeSale service fees on a store sale.

Apply, then start selling

Apply from Business / Store with your registration, business contact details, authorized representative and customer policies. Your application remains under review until SafeSale approves it. Approval checks your business information; it is not a guarantee of item quality. Account identity checks still apply.

Buyer fees only

Pay in person: the buyer pays CA$10 for items priced CA$50–CA$500 inclusive, or 2.5% above CA$500. Pay through SafeSale: the buyer pays 3.5%, with a CA$10 minimum. Item prices range from CA$50 to CA$5,000; percentage fees are rounded to cents. Stores pay no SafeSale seller fee, commission or payment-processing deduction. SafeSale covers its Stripe processing costs. Standard participant fees still apply to private sales.

Pay in person at the store

Only the buyer pays the SafeSale fee through Stripe. After the required payment, identity and transaction checks, handoff contact details unlock. The buyer pays the full item price directly to the store using the agreed method. SafeSale does not process or refund that direct item payment. The store is never asked to pay a SafeSale seller fee.

Pay through SafeSale

The approved store must complete its separate Stripe bank setup before this option is available. The buyer pays the item price plus the buyer fee at checkout. After completion and the required checks, SafeSale transfers the full agreed item price to the store’s connected Stripe account, with no seller-fee deduction. Stripe then pays the store’s bank according to its payout schedule. A transfer is not an immediate bank deposit.

Store information and customer rights

Review the store’s required business information, item condition, return policy and warranty before submitting your offer. The store is the seller and is responsible for accurate descriptions, applicable taxes, receipts and its legal obligations. Store policies do not remove mandatory consumer rights. Business verification and Stripe payout verification are separate.

Handoff, problems and refunds

Both parties confirm their own part after the exchange. New transactions can also complete seven days after handoff contacts unlock if no issue requires review. Report a problem before the deadline. Approved refunds or disputes can recover item proceeds; a $0 seller fee does not remove the store’s responsibility for a refund. Buyer service-fee refunds follow SafeSale’s cancellation and refund policy and applicable law.

Identity verification

Account creation, sign-in, browsing, history, and basic account management do not trigger Stripe Identity. SafeSale checks identity when a seller clicks Publish listing or a buyer clicks Make an offer. A successful result is normally valid for 12 months.

Expired users may still sign in and browse; re-verification is requested at the next protected action. SafeSale may require earlier re-verification for account, provider, identity-change, security, or risk review. Verification helps confirm the person behind an account but does not prove ownership, condition, authenticity, safety, or legality of an item.

Marketplace scam safety

Keep it on SafeSale. Complete payment-related actions through the SafeSale workflow and be suspicious of requests to move a transaction to another payment method or outside SafeSale.

  • Do not treat screenshots or messages as proof of payment. The transaction status in your SafeSale account is authoritative for the SafeSale workflow.
  • Never give another user an OTP or verification code, password, banking credential, or card information.
  • During handoff, confirm the actual item and compare it with the listing before completing the required handoff confirmation.
  • Contact SafeSale Support when transaction information appears inconsistent.

Pay in person and participant fees

For Pay in person, SafeSale processes participant service fees only. The item price remains entirely outside SafeSale and Stripe; the buyer pays it directly to the seller at the meeting using the parties’ agreed method. SafeSale does not authorize, capture, hold, transfer, refund, or reverse the PIP item price.

For private sales, each participant independently pays CA$10.00 when the item price is CA$50.00 through CA$500.00 inclusive, or 2.5% of the item price, rounded to exact cents, when the item price is above CA$500.00 through CA$5,000.00.

Pay through SafeSale

The buyer payment consists of the item price plus a buyer service fee of 3.5%, CA$10.00 minimum. For private sales, the seller independently owes a 3.5% service fee, CA$10.00 minimum, deducted from seller proceeds.

For new transactions under the checkout-charge terms, the item price and buyer fee are charged at checkout. The transaction completes after both confirmations or seven days after contact details unlock, unless a case, cancellation, refund, dispute, hold or unresolved financial operation requires review. Seller proceeds transfer after completion and the required checks. Earlier transactions retain their original authorization and confirmation rules. Completion does not remove applicable refund or dispute rights. SafeSale does not promise escrow, insurance or a guaranteed outcome.

The 72-hour deadlines

1
Seller responds

The seller has exactly 72 hours from offer submission to accept or reject.

2
Buyer pays

After acceptance, the buyer has exactly 72 hours from the acceptance timestamp to complete the required payment step.

3
Prepare handoff

No separate seller-fee payment deadline applies to new transactions because the seller fee is retained from proceeds.

If a deadline expires

The applicable action closes server-side. Contact information stays locked and no seller transfer is created. A payment received after expiry requires review. A timer expiry does not cancel a PaymentIntent automatically; any SafeSale-initiated cancellation requires a durable financial plan and separate Owner approval.

When contact information unlocks

Buyer and seller contact details remain hidden until the accepted offer, successful buyer payment under the applicable terms, durable seller-fee-from-proceeds record, current identity/account eligibility, and Admin/listing/offer/transaction controls all permit progression.

After unlock, only the authenticated buyer and seller for that transaction can view the other party’s appropriate contact details. Changing a transaction ID or URL does not authorize another account.

Buyer and seller handoff confirmation

The seller confirms “I handed over the item.” The buyer separately confirms “I received and tested the item.” Each confirmation is recorded once with its own timestamp.

Confirm only after the event occurred. The buyer should test the item and compare it with the listing before confirming. New transactions complete after both confirmations or after the disclosed seven-day deadline, provided all checks pass. A receipt follows completion. Earlier transactions keep their original capture and confirmation requirements.

If one party does not confirm

One confirmation does not complete the transaction and does not count as the other party’s confirmation. For new transactions, the seven-day completion deadline still applies. Report a problem before it expires; an active review blocks automatic completion.

Contact support with the transaction ID. SafeSale may review its platform records and request information, but does not promise an automatic decision, payment release, refund, or reimbursement. Stripe and the card issuer may impose their own authorization time limits.

Cancellation, expiration, and refunds

Pending offers and unpaid accepted offers can expire under the 72-hour rules. Rejected or expired offers cannot continue. Fees and authorizations are not automatically refundable in every situation; eligibility depends on the stage, Stripe status, the facts, and applicable law.

Read the Cancellation & Refund Policy before paying.

Disputes

Users should preserve the listing, photos, messages, transaction ID, receipt, and any relevant evidence. Contact support promptly. SafeSale can review records it controls, but is not a court, insurer, manufacturer, repair service, or guaranteed dispute-resolution program.

Nothing prevents a user from pursuing rights available through a card issuer, regulator, consumer-protection body, police service, or court where appropriate.

Items that cannot be sold

SafeSale supports Phone, iPhone, Tablet / iPad, Laptop, Headphones / Audio, Gaming, Kitchen appliances, Home appliances, and Other. Use Other for permitted used items that do not fit a named category.

Stolen, counterfeit, recalled, dangerous, financed without authority, locked, unlawful, or otherwise prohibited items cannot be listed. See the Prohibited Items Policy.
